I love the term- I think its hilarous and is a great way of changing you expectations from an FPS.

A Bro-Shooter. It basically anything you enjoy as if it were a brainless kick ass action flick.
Anything with a REAL story or an artistic direction is excused from the term- but is also held up to a different set of standards.

"YEAH BRO! LETS PLAY SOME CALL OF DUTY AND CHUG BEERS! WOOO!"
Bro-Shooters:
Gears of war
Halo
Modern Warfare
BulletStorm
Duke Nukem

Non-Bro-Shooters:-Edit-/took out uncharted 2/
Bioshock
Farcry
Half Life
Dead Space

What do you think about the term? Do you ever use it?

Uncharted is considered a 3rd person shooter?

I'd go with popcorn-shooter over bro-shooter. Those movies to me are popcorn flicks over bro-flicks since bro-flicks are a different animal altogether.

Yeah, Uncharted is a third-person shooter. Over the shoulder the entire time.  You only enter into first-person view when using sniper weapons and whatnot, as I recall.

I am also a fan of the Non-Bro Shooters. I don't really care much for the everyday, run of the mill shooter like CoD or Halo, etc.

Give me Uncharted and Dead Space Cheesy

Isn't Duke Nukem a parody of the so-called action flick hero?

But yeah. I don't know if I find the term "bro-shooter" appropriate. I haven't met any bros, on or offline, that play these games. In my many hours of Modern Warfare and Black Ops, most of the people I've met are... well... just dumb. I've met stoners, gangsters, racists, pedophiles, children, and just random assholes, but nobody I would define as a bro. Shit, I see more bros playing Left 4 Dead than Call of Duty Tongue

I know uncharted is 3rd person, but it sure didn't feel like a "shooter" to me. It felt like tomb raider, which is not what i'd call a 3rd person shooter like gears or dead space. It's like a 3rd person platformer.

Ok I took Uncharted off the non list-
But I do consider uncharted primarily a third person shooter (to a fault, seriously waaay to much shooting in those games)
- and if Gears of war is a Bro-Shooter, it just felt natural throwing in the Uncharted series to contrast that.

MrPharisee- I gotta disagree with you completely- I've meet plenty a bro's that only play the haloz. There are tons of folks that only care about 2 games- Madden and COD/Halo/Gears.

Popcorn shooter is an interesting idea- I certainly wouldn't mind seeing that term catch on.

Bro's playing Madden, hell yeah. But I've never encountered bros playing FPS. Well, not counting Halo.

Welp, since I'm basically completely guilty of the bro thing. I prefer the terms "International Bestsellers that are beloved by countless millions of real people" and "Nearly Immediate Bargain Bin Titles with a multiplayer community that dies within 2 weeks." (My categories are usually rough to fit on top of lists though.)

Alternate lists:

Awesome Games for Awesome People (who mute the other players):
Call of Duty
Halo Reach
Bad Company 2

Games that are about shooting someone with 1000 bullets before they finally fucking die:
Gears of War

Games that have one really awesome moment, but are otherwise a lot of being invincible and hitting stuff with a wrench
Bioshock

and because I love to rhyme:

Pretty but Shitty
Farcry
Crysis

STAY ALPHA, BABY.

I love me some bro shooters too, just not in the same way that I love me a deep compelling experience like Half Life.

Scott doesn't like Bioshock!? Shocked
- How dare you sir!......?!

I'm just clownin' dawg.

Though in fairness, I'm not anywhere near as in love with Bioshock as most other gamers are.  The ability to immediately respawn without penalty damaged it for me.  And Brass Balls was a step too far in the other direction.  Incredible reveal though.

If i feel like connecting with anyone i stick to the bro-shooters, otherwise when i need to go to my dark place i spend my day off with a good non bro-shoot festival. (There's a dance involved).

Bro-shooter?  No, I'd never say that.  Well, except if I were to describe Army of Two.

(am I doing this right?)

SA Goons make the best shit happen.

Yeah they do.

One of the best things they do is a MW2 Troll called "Hush", which is a regular TDM game, except everybody uses Cold-blooded to not appear on radar.  Then they set up claymores and literally hide in the tall weeds.  So they're basically invisible, and they just watch the other team slowly go insane when they can't find the enemy, but somehow they're still losing because of a few deaths by claymore.
