Real talk, if I flat-out hate RTS games will I like HoN? (Imagine that I secretly like way nerdier video games than I've ever let on in any of the times we've ever spoken)
And yes, I know it's not an RTS. I get the general idea of this genre but I don't feel like rolling the dice on buying an account without a decent "feel" for it.
Spending my Dirt 3 on this only to end up hating it as much as I loathe StarCraft is really going to annoy me.
You might, there is no building or resource gathering. Kill and get gold/xp to level up, die and lose gold (and xp for not being out in the field b/c you're dead!) There are a ton of Heroes to choose from, so you can probably find at least a couple you'll like.
Did you ever play Demigod? League of Legends? They play...similar.
Monday Night Combat is based off these style of games, (except these aren't shooters obv)
Bloodline Champions is very similar, but without the towers etc.
If you're not sure about the genre, then try out League of Legends first.

If you kinda like LoL but want something with more depth, (or if you end up loving it) then you should buy HoN. They also have deals from time to time, and there was a Free2Play week not too long ago. Didn't think anyone here was even remotely interested in that though, I'll give you guys a heads up next time.
Let me know if you're gonna try out LoL, I'd play it with you. Don't expect me to know much about the heroes/items, I haven't played it in over a year, but I'll be able to help with a lot of the basic concepts of the heroes/abilities.
