Seriously? I didn't even realize that they were planning on making a movie based on Red Dead Redemption. Are these people seriously fucking retarded? Why the fuck on Earth would they make a movie based on a video game based on old western movies?

If that isn't idiotic enough, you should also realize that the story or RDR is pretty stale. It offered absolutely nothing we hadn't seen before in terms of story and characters. The whole plot point about how you play a guy who used to be a bad guy, but the FBI took his family hostage so now he is hunting down his old bandit buddies to save his family. I mean, it works for the game and everything plays out fine but fuck me, why would they make it into a movie? the only reason the story holds up is because of the GAME. As in, the fact that it is an open world wild west game where you ride your horse around, go hunting, kill people in quick draws, and all that crazy western stuff.

Brad Pitt was already in an epic western movie and it was called "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford", go watch it. Unlike RDR, it is based on a true story, and its a great one, and has some truly great characters as they were real people.

I don't think I can express enough how stupid of an idea it is to make a movie based on RDR. AWEIOFJAWPIOJFAIVJAIWERJV!!

Agreed. Terrible idea. Besides, we don't need another Jonah Hex.

Well, if you look at the Red Dead Redemption story, it really is just a mash-up of various Western tropes and themes.  If you watch a bunch of Western movies, then just watch all of the cutscenes in Red Dead Redemption, you will be able to call almost every event that happens (with some exceptions of course).  If they do decide to make a Read Dead Redemption movie, I imagine something similar to the Prince of Persia movie (based on what I have heard of the aforementioned movie) and get something that is actually a pretty decent movie that is based on a videogame whose story HEAVILY draws on Western movies.  It will probably make money, just not be too fantastic so long as they get decent people working on it.

They def took an interesting approach to Prince of Persia, and in turn caught a shit-ton of backlash for it. I like the idea of keeping church and state separate, right... I don't want to sit through a movie for a story that I already know. RDR is interesting because as you said, its a story that's hardly original or compelling, that's the point. The idea was for it to be a spaghetti western that you can play. This is all just about branding, they probably had a western script in their bench and slapped a new title on to it.

You know what, if they can get Clint Eastwood to play John Marston, I would see it.  Despite age differences and voice differences, I would see it.
