  • Okay so I was totally going to post about how you had someone on the show to discuss games who didn't know about Natal, buuuut you caught it and then called me out on the fact that you knew I'd give you shit about it, so I won't.  Tongue
  • Cory and Molly sounded turrible in the first half, but Cory already said that.
  • Wander can't speak much, outside of calling Agro. He has to be the only character in the movie basically, unless they insist on personifying the "voice". Other than that, the rest of the movie is plausible.
  • Props to Reggie:
Do producers and executives still knock on the door asking about movie rights to Mario or Zelda or Metroid, and if so, what do you tell them?
All the time. The message is, "Thank you for the interest." There have been certain [people] that we have talked in more detail with. But I think in the end, because we are a content company and are passionate about our franchises, it will be few and far between that actual deals are done to bring our franchises to life in a different way. These are our children.
  • I still think that if the LotR movies never came out and had instead been tooled and condensed into one movie, much of what we saw is in line with what we'd see in a true Final Fantasy (or Zelda for that matter) movie.
  • FFIX is oft referred to as the epitome of the realized potential of the PSX platform. The game is good.
  • I liked the Watchmen, but had literally zero exposure to the source material beforehand. When I read it afterward, it was like getting a director's cut of the story and an alternate ending.
  • I'd be curious to see the net revenue on Dante's Inferno vs God of War III. Most of EA's marketing seemed to be viral and digital, whereas Sony had billboards, movie trailers, and Slurpee deals. I'm sure it doesn't equalize, but it'd still be interesting to compare.
  • Quadratic is an awesome company or band name.
  • AvP:Requiem was much better than the first AvP movie in my opinion. We got to watch the Predator Batman clean up a mess!
  • The Bigs was the closest thing I've played that reminded me of the Blitz and Jam games. I'm crazy excited about NBA Jam coming back, but I'm okay with a c-hair's more depth as well.
  • Only Conan's former and Fallon's current audience are aligned with game enthusiasts. Maybe Kimmel, but for CliffyB to go to Fallon and no other show probably does just as much good as also going to Leno and Letterman.
  • The Street Fighter Encyclopedia won't be complete without the EX characters. They had better be there...
  • Nice reference to Hackers. Oddly enough, Jorge and I were talking about the password thing the other day. They said the top two passwords used were "god" and "sex", so of course Jorge postulated that the third must be "sexgod".
  • Molly's "that's what she said" was too good.
  • Tye-dus. Crawn-o-trigger. Dis-uh-die-uh. Zi-dayne.
  • Sephiroth is seriously one of the most effeminate pussbags Square ever conjured. Yes he was a bad ass and made Cloud cry, but the fact remains.
  • Cave Story is a platformer adventure game in the vein of Metroid, Castlevania, and Shadow Complex. Apparently, and I don't agree with this, shmups are anything in which you shoot them up. Therefore anything with shooting and them and up is a shmup. I always thought R-Type, Einhander, 1943, and Gun.Smoke, were shmups (either top-scrolling or side-scrolling) and everything else mentioned were platformer adventure, action, or run and gun.
  • Rich = http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qNXEs2JFe-Y  Cheesy
  • Adam Young saw that the Postal Service wasn't doing another album and saw a niche ripe for the picking. He managed to emulate their sound by himself and write a bunch of catchy songs that involve him interfacing with animals. This is the American dream. Enjoy the show, Molly.
  • H!A!P!P!Y!B!I!R!T!H!D!A!Y! to Baranowsky. Space bar is for jumping.

Holy Shit. I seriously laughed almost immediately and was perfectly in sync with the laughing in the video.

Also, thank you for understanding the difference between a shmup and an action platformer that has shooting. I was having trouble thinking of more examples the time but you named some of the examples to argue that Cave Story is not a shmup.

Also, I had to go my and respell "shmup". For some reason I really want to spell it with a "c" like "schmup". And that really doesn't make sense at all.

I'm glad you agree with me on this. It's an amazing game.

Damn, I feel like Belisle should never attend another Podcast, and always write this sort of thing.

FOR THE RECORD: When I said Zack Snyder should make his next movie Dark Knight Returns, I didn't mean that he should make the third Batman movie. I was implying that WHEN Nolan finishes his trilogy, that he should do Dark Knight Returns off of the book, Dark Knight Return (you know, that really cool book that's essentially responsible for the Batman we know today?) Nolan's last movie will finish his trilogy and it should be epic, but he'll have shot his wad on Batman. But Hollywood's not going to stop making Batman movies and they'll be going another direction for the next Batman movie, after Nolan's, with a new director and I'd love to see a stylized version of Dark Knight Returns on film and Zack Snyder would be perfect for that. I just felt like I really had to clarify my love for Nolan's Bat-Films, because Josh turned into "NOOO, WE MUST TALK ABOUT VIDEOGAMES!"
