You made some interesting points about the upcoming Spike award show.

It is somewhat silly that the categories "Best Music Game" and "Best Soundtrack" almost have identical candidates.  I usually say I don't care much about a game's soundtrack (with exceptions), but if you're going to give somebody an award for something, you should at least have some standards.  The qualification for "Best" should suggest that the music being played in the game has a great connection to the game: either the subject matter, or it aids the emotion the player senses.

And wow, it really does say Tricia Helfer as Sarah Kerrican.
(P.S. Thanks for mentioning that NPH is Spider-man in Shattered Dimensions.  I just picked that up and haven't noticed.  I imagine I will enjoy this much more)

This all being said, does this award show really make a difference?  The biggest impact I can imagine is that, in the future, if they release a Mass Effect 2 Game of the Year edition, it would say "Winner of Spike TV's 'Game of the Year' award".  (I actually think Halo Reach might win that one).

No, we had a long conversation after the podcast, and it doesn't make a difference. I think I'm more upset that these kind of award shows are spreading the wrong message of gaming is about. At least on a personal level, I look at games as a story telling medium, just like books and movies. And I really don't think that GOW is going to be the platform to which that mentality can be rallied around. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but most already have a negative opinion of games. This isn't going to help change that.
